Insulation with non-wicking, thermal break and moisture barrier properties—yes, please!

We install all types of insulation and in recent years it’s become clear to us, and from customer feedback, that non-wicking thermal-break moisture-barrier insulation is an excellent choice for properties located in subtropical climates such as Brisbane and the surrounding regions we service from Moreton Bay to the Gold Coast.

Let’s break it down.

It Doesn’t Wick Moisture (Crucial for Humidity)

Standard blanket insulation can act like a sponge. In humid climates, such as Brisbane, if the edge of the insulation gets wet—whether from condensation or a leak—traditional blanket materials can wick that moisture deep into the roof cavity. This leads to mould, rot, and degraded performance.

A non-wicking closed-cell structure won’t draw moisture, and our prefered product passes strict water penetration tests with a "HIGH" Water Barrier Classification. This keeps your cavities dry during our humid summers.

A Thermal Break Stops the Heat Bridge

Without a barrier, heat transfers straight into your ceiling (thermal bridging). Whether you have a steel-framed or timber-framed property, when it comes the ceiling cavity, the weak point is the air. Without insulation, heat radiates straight through the air gap and into the living space.

A thick thermal break insulation is a low-emissivity barrier that interrupts radiant heat flow. In other words, it stops the heat before it crosses the ceiling cavity. In a Brisbane summer, this means your living or working spaces stay cooler, and your air conditioner or what breeze you can catch isn’t fighting against radiating heat.

Hail Resistant and Durable

Non-wicking thermal-break moisture-barrier insulation is rated as highly durable, with serious edge tear resistance (over 500N). And, once installed, resists rodents and other nesting critters.

And it’s Fibre-Free!

Non-wicking thermal-break moisture-barrier insulation is fibre-free and non-irritant, making installation quicker and safer for tradies. This saves us time and stress, and we choose to pass this saving on to you.

Our Verdict

Our preferred insulation doesn’t just reflect heat, it stops moisture migration and structural bridging, giving you a cooler, drier, and more code-compliant property. In Queensland’s humid, high-heat environment, non-wicking, low-emissivity, and moisture-resistant insulation is a game-changer. It protects building structures, lowers cooling costs, and delivers National Construction Code of Australia compliance—without the itch.

Roof replacement with non-wicking, thermal break, and moisture barrier insulation rolled out over the top of timber battens from ridge to gutter line (ceiling batts are present underneath, which sit on top of the ceiling for added insulation benefits).
